The great white shark is one of the largest marine predators and has very few competitors. It owes its name to its white belly which stands in stark contrast to its grey back. They are found in all temperate waters around the world, and mainly in shallow water. It has a highly developed sense of hearing and smell, making it a formidable hunter. It measures between 4 and 6 m in length and has an impressive mouth with razor sharp triangular teeth. The white shark is carnivorous and mainly eats large fish such as tuna but also seals, turtles, dolphins and even other species of shark.
