Sea lions belong to the family of Otariidae. They are carnivorous marine mammals that are capable of living both on land and at sea. However, like their cousin the seal, they spend most of their lives underwater and only go on land to rest and to reproduce. Sea lions are very good swimmers, they use their four limbs to swim, unlike the seal: the forelegs are used for propulsion and the hind ones are used for directing.
