The octopus has eight arms linked to a head with eyes on each side. This head is extended by a muscular body, also called the mantle, where the digestive, pulmonary and genital systems are located. On the ventral side of the mantle there is a large slit which allows water to enter. A "pipe", or funnel, comes out of the slit, through which the water is expelled with varying degrees of force, helping it to propel itself as required. The octopus is an invertebrate and therefore has no skeleton, which allows it to crawl almost anywhere.
